RadioShack #SchoolOfSmart Blogger Panel

I’ve been obsessed with cellphones and the mobile industry as a whole for as long as I can remember – back before SIM cards, color screens, and cameraphones, when typing ‘RadioShack’ required you to press 77723444666777744222255. In the last few years, phones have gotten smarter, and in the process, more complicated. At RadioShack, we offer plans from AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, Boost Mobile, Virgin Mobile, and a host of others. We also have over 50 different phone models for our customers to choose from.

We understand that can be a daunting experience, so we’re launching ‘RadioShack’s School of Smart‘. Over the next few weeks, we’ll bring industry experts together with RadioShack employees to help educate YOU about your mobile life, helping you choose the best phone, plan and accessories to fit YOUR lifestyle.

This Wednesday at 11:30 AM CST, RadioShack will host a Google+ Hangout with Myriam Joire (aka Tnkgrl) from, Marin Perez from, and David Ruddock from to discuss the current state of smartphones and the potential future of mobility. These panelists will talk about the latest phones, how to choose a mobile device and their predictions for the future of the industry, among other things.

1. Add RadioShack’s Google+ page to your Google+ circles
2. Tell all your friends to do it, and use the #SchoolOfSmart tag
3. Join us at 11:30 AM CST on Wednesday, August 8, 2012
4. Post your question in the chat during the video, or leave it as a comment on this post.  We’ve got some special prizes to give out if we use your question during the hangout.

At RadioShack, we to make it easy for YOU to be an educated buyer, making sense of all the different options, so YOU can choose the best phone and plan FOR YOU. We’ve got them all under one roof, and our friendly associates are glad to help you out along the way.

    My question is:

I’m going overseas on vacation for about a month and will not be able to use my phone. I have heard about people parking their number and don’t pay for their bill that month? Is that available, or was I just told a myth?

Do you think there will be new smartphones with the P.T.T/walkie-talkie feature? I have been a costumer of Boost Mobile for years now, and I use the walkie-talkie feature to stay in contact with my family in Mexico, they offer a pretty cheap plan. Right now I am paying $40 for everything unlimited BUT I don’t see the company making any new ones with the same feature. I see more and more smartphones coming out but none with P.T.T. I need to upgrade my phone and can’t find any that I like. Everything else is old like the phone I now own. I wonder if I should just let go and move on (like they are) to a new smartphone/new company. :(

Which phone company would you say is the easiest to use as far as customer friendly. which PHONE is the easiest for old timers to understand?

With all of the “advancements” and changes in data plans, how long do you expect an initiative to come forth for more mobile web pages, apps with streamlined code, and other various data-saving techniques?

What do you think the next big obstacle in the mobile world will be?

  • Doug

There have been more and more MVNO’s popping up lately. I see this as a potential win for the consumer and a way to drive pricing lower with the big 2. DO you think this model will catch on (pay full price for your phone and get discounted monthly rate)? Also do you have any thoughts on the latest MVNO Solavei?

Could you live without your smartphone for a week (now that smartphones are so much a part of our culture)?
